Longevity Tips from Dr. Natasha Bernard
As cooler weather sets in and the holiday season approaches, we’re also sharing a simple bone broth recipe to help you stay nourished and grounded. Dr. Bernard has been making bone broth weekly since January 2025 and has found it to be an economical, sustainable, and easy way to support longevity and overall health.
Benefits of Bone Broth:
A great source of collagen to support skin and joint health
Rich in protein to aid muscle building and maintenance
Provides valuable electrolytes and may help reduce inflammation in the gut
Can support metabolic health and weight management by promoting a feeling of fullness
Ingredients:
3 - 4 chicken backs
2 whole carrots
half a large onion
couple of stalks of celery
quarter cup of apple cider vinegar
a teaspoon of peppercorns
2 bay leaves
salt
ginger or turmeric
Directions:
Bake/Broil 3-4 chicken backs until brown, approximately 30 minutes or use a pre-baked chicken and remove all of the meat that you want to eat
In your slow cooker, place the chicken bones in with two whole carrots, half a large onion, a couple of stalks of celery
Add a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar, a teaspoon of peppercorns two bay leaves a little bit of salt and any other herbs or spices like ginger or turmeric
Next, fill your slow cooker up with filtered water and cook for at least 10 hours
Allow to cool a little (can add ice cubes if you’re short on time) and filter through a metal sieve into glass jars and store for up to a week
NOTE: If you have any underlying health conditions or dietary restrictions, be sure to consult with a healthcare professional before adding bone broth to your routine.
